Archdeacon of Norwich

The Ven Jan McFarlane was installed as Archdeacon of Norwich in Norwich Cathedral on Sunday 15 March 2009. She is also Diocesan Director of Communications, a post she has held since 1999.

Born in 1964, Jan trained at Cranmer Hall, Durham and was ordained at Lichfield Cathedral in 1993. She served in the Stafford Team Ministry and at Ely Cathedral before moving to the Diocese of Norwich to take up the post of full time Communications Officer. The following year her role was combined with that of Chaplain to the Bishop of Norwich, and she held both posts for eight years. She is also one of the Diocesan representatives on the Church of England's General Synod. Before ordination she worked as a Speech Therapist in the NHS in North Staffordshire. She has a life long interest in communications and is currently writing for the Reflections series for Church House Publishing.
