The gardeners

Simon Gaches

The Head Gardener since 1994 is Simon Gaches. He trained at Easton College and has a detailed knowledge of the Bishop's Garden. He has a passion for rare and unusual plants with many from the Southern Hemisphere. In recent years he has added a bamboo walk and aims to create a garden of botanical interest whilst still honouring the proud history of the Bishop's Garden.

Simon is a full member of The Professional Gardeners Guild, is on the committee of the Norfolk Delphinium Growers Group and the Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural Society where he has won cups and medals over the years.

Will Gates

The part time Assistant Gardener is William Gates who has worked alongside Simon at Bishop's House since 2004. Coming from a background of working independently for many years in a variety of both large and small scale gardens in and around Norwich, William also trained at Easton College where he studied both Conservation as well as Arboriculture before finally going on to gain formal RHS accreditation whilst working here in the Bishops garden.
