
Archdeacon Clifford comes from a clergy family. He was born, brought up and educated in Kent. After graduating from Exeter University he trained for the ministry at Wescott House in Cambridge. He was ordained to a curacy at Bromley in South London, before taking up a sector post in Health and Social Services with the Southampton Team Ministry.
Building on his experience in teams he was invited to become Team Rector of Hitchin Team Ministry in Hertfordshire. In 1994 he was appointed Archdeacon of Norwich and Canon Librarian of the Cathedral.
In his present post Clifford is Warden of Readers and has oversight of Non-Stipendiary Ministry in the Diocese. He is Chair of the Board of Ministry and a Bishop's Selector. In addition he trains other archdeacons for the Eastern Region.
He is married to Catherine and they have two daughters, Isabel and Rebecca. He enjoys history, particularly the Saxon period, and is on the Committee of the Centre of East Anglican Studies. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
