Churches Discovery Project

There are over 600 historic churches waiting to welcome visitors. They are scattered all over the countryside and in market towns and the medieval city of Norwich. They can be visited by car,by bike, by boat and on foot. So whether you are a local resident, a day tripper or a visitor on holiday, why not stop by and push open the door? You may be surprised at what you find!

  • Our churches welcome visitors and pilgrims of all ages.
  • A number of churches have been in their village settings for a long time. They were at the centre of village life and they are still there as reminders of a Christian FAith that goes back over 1,000 years in Norfolk.
  • Their stories, their names and their associations are fascinating.
  • There are all kinds of towers, fabulous stained glass, wall paintings, painted screens, carved pews and font covers to look at and other things to explore.
  • They are places of quiet and contemplation.

So come and explore the wonders of Norfolk's churches and their links to the history and life of one of England's beautiful coastal counties. Look on these pages for further information and links.
