Bibles for Children
Posted on Thursday 21 June 2012
Bibles for Children is a registered charity (no.1063200) which exists to give every child in the country their own copy of the Bible.
The following note is from The Revd Roger Massingberd-Mundy, who is the local contact for them in our Diocese:
“Some of you are already using Bibles for Children with the schools in your area, but I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about the charity if you haven’t already heard of us and would be interested.
We give out The Children’s Bible for Children in years 2-5, and in Year 6 the Rainbow Good News Bible. Every school may apply for Bibles, and they are provided (alongside copies for all the class teachers) and presented to each child and belong to that child.
The initial presentation of bibles is free (carrier cost is requested).
In the following year the school is asked to present the new intake with bibles of their own, and the new members of year 6 with their own Good News bible. Both require a sponsorship of £5.80 per bible (for Bibles which retail at £15.99 each). The charity covers all the remaining costs including transport to the school.
Clearly for some schools this has not been possible after the initial presentation because of cuts in funding. This is where there is an opportunity for the local church to play an important part in supporting the school and becoming involved with Christian input in the school where it is possible.
If you wish to know whether the school in your area already has taken up the offer or not, please contact me by e-mail.
Due to the retirement of our successful Headteacher we are offering an exciting opportunity to lead our federated schools, to build on the excellent work that has already been achieved and further expand the federation to include other schools in the future.
This is a part time appointment (21 hours weekly, to be worked Wednesday to Friday) based at Bishop’s House, adjacent to the Cathedral in the heart of Norwich.
