Women in the Episcopate – Your feedback
Posted on Tuesday 14 August 2012
Those who have followed the debate will know that there is continuing discussion about the Bishops’ amendment to the legislation.
The National Association of Diocesan Advisers for Women in Ministry (NADAWM) have asked for feedback which they will represent to the Steering committee which consists of the bishops of Manchester and Dover. The steering committee will meet with the Code of Practice Group – bishops of Chichester, Coventry and St Edmundsbury and Ipswich to discuss responses from people in the dioceses and then draft a paper for the Standing Committee of the House of Bishops prior to their meeting in September.
The House of Bishops meets on 12 September to decide which version of the amendment (if any) will appear in the legislation which goes to Synod when it meets in November.
The options are to:
- Leave clause 51c unamended
- Remove clause 51c from the legislation
- Amend clause 51c
To save repeating information already available the 5 options for amending the clause are included on the Church of England website – Women in the Episcopate – the Final Legislative Lap (PDF document).
I would be happy to forward to NADAWM any comments you might wish to make. The deadline for feedback is Friday 17 August.
