Ministry Consultants scheme
Posted on Thursday 30 August 2012
An email from Bishop Graham about the Ministry Consultants scheme.
I warmly recommend to all clergy the new Ministry Consultant scheme now available across the Diocese. For all of us at any stage in ministry, there are times when it is good to have someone to help us to think and reflect upon our work. A Ministry Consultant offers continuing support, mentoring, encouragement, and challenge to clergy by meeting with them regularly.
The scheme exists as part of a normal structured approach to ministry and is available to all licensed clergy (except curates) alongside spiritual direction, CMD advisors and Ministerial Development Reviews. It is confidential, without reference to senior staff. The period of time over which a series of meetings takes place should, ideally and initially, be limited by agreement between Consultant and the priest concerned. Those who offer Ministry Consultancy are drawn from clergy and laity and have received suitable briefing and training, and will receive on-going support while maintaining confidentiality.
There are many reasons for seeking a Ministry Consultant. These may include:
- Wanting time to reflect on ministry at any stage
- Looking to refresh vision for ministry
- Seeking support while new in post or while facing a challenging situation.
- Working in a ministry which is undergoing transition
- Reflecting on the management of roles and tasks
Following a “pilot stage” of running the scheme with a limited number of clergy, it is now ready to be made more widely available.
The leaflet at this link gives more detail about the scheme and includes the contact information for those who wish to seek a Ministry Consultant.
I commend this scheme to you and assure you all of my continued prayers for all that you do in the service of God and his church.
