Archdeacon of Norwich Announces Retirement
The Venerable Clifford Offer has been Archdeacon of Norwich and Canon Residentiary and Librarian of Norwich Cathedral since 1994.

He chairs the Norwich Diocesan Board of Ministry and is Warden of Readers. Before moving to Norwich he was Team Rector of Hitchin in the Diocese of St Albans from 1983-1994, and before that, Team Vicar of Southampton City Centre. He was a member of the General Synod from 1999-2005. He is married to Dr Catherine Offer and they have two daughters. Announcing his intention to retire from full-time ministry, the Archdeacon said, “It has been an enormous privilege to serve the Cathedral and Diocese over a number of years. Norwich is a wonderful city and I have much enjoyed working with my many colleagues, both clerical and lay, as well as others in the wider community. We shall be sad to leave and will greatly miss all our friends.” The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham James said, “Clifford Offer has been Archdeacon of Norwich since 1994. He’s also been Canon Librarian of Norwich Cathedral and has taken responsibility for many areas of ministry in the Diocese. His hard work, dedication and high standards have caused many people to be grateful to him. His service to the Cathedral and Diocese has been exemplary. We shall miss him and Catherine a great deal when he retires from full-time ministry.” The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Graham Smith said, “Clifford Offer has served the Diocese and the Cathedral with distinction. The past 14 years have seen considerable change and he has consistently given leadership and support. Clifford and Catherine shall be greatly missed.” A farewell service will be held at Norwich Cathedral in July.
