Service for those who died through drugs or alcohol

Last year over 120 family members, friends and people who have worked with or supported people with drug and alcohol problems gathered at the Cathedral to remember their loved ones or friends.

This year Elizabeth Burton Philips, whose son Nick died as a result of his heroin addiction, will be speaking at the service. Elizabeth is the author of 'Mum can you lend me twenty quid?' The book tells the story of how the lives of her family were affected by the drug addiction of her twin sons Nick and Simon. The book was written with the help of her surviving twin son Simon, now drug-free.

Whilst living with or supporting someone with a drug or alcohol problem can be difficult, this service is an opportunity to also remember the good in those who have died and that every individual is unique and special.

The Remembrance service is being organised by parents who have lost loved ones in this way and people from different agencies and is supported by the Matthew Project.
