Music Day: Finding a Voice

Posted on Monday 26 January 2009
A day for all who want to find fresh ways for music to flourish in church worship.

Saturday 25 April 2009 from 10-5pm at Norwich Cathedral

I am writing to invite you and members of your congregations to be part of a special Music day at the Cathedral in April this year, which we are organising with Andrew Maries, Consultant for Music and Liturgy for the Diocese of Exeter and David Lowe, Master of Music at Norwich Cathedral.

The event is Finding a Voice – a day for all who want to find fresh ways for music to flourish in the worship of our churches - a day to taste and savour different musical styles.  Musicians and non-musicians alike are welcome and those in churches with or without existing musical resources.

There will be a great line up of singers and musicians from around the country who will lead a variety of workshops.  Ambient Wonder will help us explore alternative forms of worship; Stephen Dean will bring music from Roman Catholic composers; singer songwriter Graham Kendrick will share his music and reflect on trends in the world of contemporary worship music; David Lowe will share his passion to help us ‘find our voice’; Andrew Maries will share a feast of musical resources to enrich the repertoire of congregations and musicians;  Julie McCann will bring music from the Iona Community; Sue Page will share Taize prayer; Jan Payne from the Royal School of Church Music will offer ‘fresh expressions of choir’; Matthew Pitts organist at St Peter Mancroft, Norwich will offer help to organists;  Scott Stroman will bring Gospel music and jazz.    An event not to be missed!  I would be very grateful if you could publicise this event and encourage those who you think will particularly benefit to come.   Thank you. The cost is £10 per person with concessions for booking early and groups.  Booking is essential.

On the Friday evening Graham Kendrick will be singing some of his songs and talking about his life at The King’s Centre, Norwich. The Friday evening concert has sold out.

Brochures with all details will be sent by post in the Diocesan mailing in the week beginning 16 February.  All details including a poster and booking form can be downloaded now at

http://www.norwich.anglican.org/calendar/e1002

or contact Rosie Sethia at rosie.sethia@norwich.anglican.org, phone 01603 729818 or in writing to Emmaus House, 65 The Close, Norwich NR1 4DH.

It would be wonderful if you  - and a group - are able to come.
