In the past the procession has been a ‘Walk of Witness’ and have moved, with the support of the Salvation Army Band, to The Forum where there has been a short open air service. This year they are being asked to silently consider the themes of Good Friday, and demonstrate a unity in this silence.
Members from churches across the whole of Norwich are being encouraged to meet at Chapelfield Road Methodist church at 5pm, where they will gather together, and then move off along the traditional route with a cross at the front, a cross in the middle, and one at the back. At The Forum the procession will hold a will hold a 2 minute’s silent vigil, then move off again.
“We want to walk as a silent presence that speaks of a unity amongst ourselves in the face of what Jesus did for us on the cross” says Nicholas Vesey, Chairman of Transforming Norwich “In modern society silence is often the way we remember people and events, and so it seemed appropriate for Good Friday. We hope it will be a powerful event, both for those of us taking part and for those who witness it”.
Steward for the event are being provided by the Street Pastors team, who will accompany the procession wearing their uniforms.
The walk will aim to be at the Cathedral at 5.45, in time for the traditional service at 6pm.
