Lent Project a huge Thank You
A huge thank you to all of you who have expressed an interest in and have been contributing to our Diocesan Lent Project – supporting Educateperu as it provides education for the some of the poorest children in Peru.

We will send a first contribution to Educateperu in the next few months and I will let you know how things have been going and what we have achieved.  We will be keeping the appeal open until the end of the year for the last bits & pieces to come in.

Our Diocesan Lent Project is a one off effort to raise money for capital building at the Saxlingham St Mary’s school in Pachacutec, Lima, Peru. This is to provide classrooms and other facilities as the school grows from the existing provision for 120 4-8 year olds to a full secondary school for 1000 children.

Individuals or parishes might also like to offer ongoing support for the children at the school. Jill Bignell has set up a “godparenting” scheme for the poorest children to provide them with a meal (they otherwise turn up to school hungry and cannot concentrate) and pay the small amount needed for extra lessons and classroom helpers. The suggested donation is £10 per month.

More information is available on the website at http://www.norwich.anglican.org/world/lent/godparent.shtml (see the update at the bottom of the page).
