Norwich Cathedral - Sunday 21st March, 3.30 pm
All Welcome
At Evensong on March 21st in the Cathedral the Bishop of Norwich and the Bishop of East Anglia will be in dialogue in place of the sermon, focussing upon the witness of Archbishop Oscar Romero, martyred thirty years ago in San Salvador. Bishop Graham and Bishop Michael will be reflecting upon his significance for the universal Church and Bishop Michael will be speaking about the inspiration he draws from Archbishop Romero in his own ministry.
Bishop Graham will be reflecting also on the reference which Robert Runcie made to Oscar Romero's martyrdom when, a few hours later, he was enthroned as Archbishop of Canterbury. His enthronement sermon on Christian Authority found strange and tragic illustration in what happened in San Salvador a few hours before. Men of conservative temperament in their different contexts both Romero and Runcie found themselves at odds with the Governments of their time.
Everyone is welcome to this and the other events in Romero Week. Please do publicise them among your people and come yourself if you are able to do so. A poster is available at http://www.norwich.anglican.org/documents/RomeroWeek.doc
