Core Skills will give you the confidence, understanding and skills you need to work with children and nurture them in their journey of faith, whether you are experienced, new to children's work or hoping to start. It will inspire and refresh you and the work you do.

Core Skills is for everyone who works, or hopes to work, with children in church. It's a new and exciting inter-denominational training course from the Bible Reading Fellowhip.
Attending the whole course will bring the most benefit and is strongly recommended, as the modules are linked, however individual modules can be booked. Those booking for the whole course receive a free course book.
All participants are encouraged to do an introductory session within their own church, with co-workers, colleagues or another church member. This will help you reflect on current work, and identify issues and needs. (The introductory session will be sent with the confirmation of booking). Modules:
Module 1:Child Development· Children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, social, moral & spiritual development. · Learning styles & approaches· How personal faith experience affects ways of working.
Module 2:Leadership Skills· Evaluate current skills & identify possibilities for personal development· Recognise the need to feel valued, equipped & supported· Develop the skills & habit of reflecting on work with children
Module 3:Programme Planning· Understand how learning styles are influenced by society & culture· Working creatively using a variety of learning styles· Planning original sessions, delivering published programmes, evaluating sessions
Module 4:Children & Community· Reflect on stories from different contexts and distil principles of good practice· Develop strategies for developing new areas of work in a variety of contexts· Explore what it means to be ‘church’ & children’s active participation
Module 5:Pastoral Awareness· Share insights on pastoral issues· Explore how power is used in working with children· Providing a safe environment
Module 6:Spirituality & the Bible · Explore spirituality and its relationship with faith· Understand the ways in which the Bible can enrich prayer and spiritual activities· Experience spiritual reflection & develop an awareness of different style of prayer
Four new modules are available for those who wish to do them as separate sessions or in addition to the above: Young Leaders, Special Needs, Transitions and Global DimensionsCourse Leadership: The course will be led by Angela George, full-time youth and children's worker in the parishes of Hingham, Wymondham and Cringleford. Angela has extensive experience of working with children, setting up and running groups, and worshipping with children; she is also an active member of the Diocesan Task Force.
Angela is looking forward to leading the course, having seen its positive results. Feedback from particpants has been very encouraging. All of them, whether experienced or new to children's ministry, have found their confidence and enthusiasm boosted.
The full programme of 6 sessions can form part of an accredited course. A Certificate will be given.
