Church of England Youth Council

The Church of England Youth Council (CEYC) is the official body representing a youth voice to the wider church.

Who are they?

Each diocese can elect two reps, aged 16 to 24. All reps meet as a full council twice a year, for a day in April and a weekend in November.

A group of CEYC members visit General Synod every July. They can, and do, speak in any debate and their opinion has been welcomed.

CEYC has strong ecumenical links. Some members have even had international opportunities, flying to places such as New York and Germany to attend meetings of the Ecumenical Youth Council of Europe, General Convention of the Episcopal Church, and as part of the Anglican Observer group to the UN.

What do they do?

CEYC discussions have included slavery, child well-being, the environment, youth issues, women bishops, knife crime, and Christianity and politics. Action Groups meet between meetings.

Vision Statement

Through worship, prayers and friendship CEYC actively represents the young people of the Church of England by:

• Debating issues impacting on youth
• Engaging with the Church of England and the wider community

It enriches its members by providing the opportunity to:

• Participate fully in the CEYC community
• Develop their gifts and callings in the wider church
• Gain knowledge of the Church of England, the differing traditions and views within it

It actively engages with young people by:

• Debating issues affecting youth to improve their quality of life
• Encouraging and supporting youth participation at all levels
• Taking action to create change where it is needed
• Supporting their spiritual journey
