Governors

Welcome to the governors page. Your contacts are:

Louise Reeves, Education Administration Support Officer

Mrs Louise Reeves

We are able to support and advise you on any matter relating to governance, whether it is the appointment/reappointment of Foundation Governors; reconstitution of governing bodies; federation of governing bodies, recruitment of a new headteacher or other strategic matters.

News

  •   The new DfE list of statutory policies is available to download below
  • From September 2012 when Governing Bodies reconstitute there are new regulations on the make up of Governing Bodies. There are new regulations in relation to Federation reconstitution also. Both are available below.
  • A copy of the Governors Guide to the Law is available below

Appointment of Foundation Governors

We administer, with your clerk to the governing body, the appointment of Foundation Governors. The process is explained in the clerks' section where the Foundation Governor information booklet is also available to download.

Instruments of Government

Every school is required to have an Instrument of Government in relation to their governing body. This is signed and sealed by Legal Services at Norfolk or Suffolk County Councils and shows the total number of governors required to form the governing body, including the number of governors under each category.  E.g. Foundation; Community; Local Authority; Parent; Staff; Sponsors; Trustees etc.

Governing Bodies are able to reconstitute at any time and we are able to advise on this. Once agreed by the Governing Body you will need to notify us so that we can sign off the new Instrument before liaising with the relevant Local Authority to arrange for it to be legal and sealed.

Admissions

Voluntary Controlled schools will adopt the Norfolk County Council  or Suffolk County Council guidelines as their policy.

Voluntary Aided schools will have their own admissions policy but will often base this on the recommendation of Norfolk or Suffolk County Council policy.
