Dear Colleague,
In my e-mail of 10th December I said that we were on course to raise a total of £6.65m provided every parish paid as much as they could by the end of January 2008. The response so far has been tremendous with total receipts on 9th January standing at £6.3m. We therefore need £350K over the next 3 weeks to achieve an annual increase of just over 5% in parish share collected - our best result for several years. Based on our usual pattern of receipts this figure is definately achievable and as I said in my December email, the result would be one for great celebration and thanksgiving across the Diocese.
I appreciate that parishes are already beginning to focus on 2008 but it is crucial that we do not lose the momentum in receipts for 2007 over the next 3 weeks. For those parishes with amounts still to pay for 2007 could I ask you all to have one final big push and send as much as you can to arrive before the end of January. It would be most helpful and greatly appreciated if those parishes who have paid in full and may be in a position to help others, could contact their Deanery Assessor for guidance.
Every pound of additional income now is a step forward towards a healthier financial situation and the prospect of lower increases in the future.
With best wishes,
David Broom
