Vocation: All are called

As members of the church, we all have a contribution to make to society. Some people are trained and set aside to enable others to minister in both their local community and their place of work.

God may be calling you to these or other ministries. The calling will be appropriate to your gifts and abilities and equally to do with God's purposes for creation.

You may feel that God is calling you to minister in one of the ways described in the section Ministry in the Church of England; explore these possibilities, but please do remember that all Christians are called to serve God with their gifts. We are all, ultimately, in full-time service for God. Give yourself time to consider all this.

'My Place' is a Diocesan 2-session short course for any lay adult Christian to explore God's plans for their life.
It is designed to explore God's plans for you, your gifts, the things you are passionate about and how you fit into the vocation of every Christian... as a child of God... as part of a family/extended family... as part of a community... as part of God's church.

This course is suitable for any adult Christian. Each course consists of a Saturday plus one weekday evening and will be delivered jointly by Susanna Gunner, Lay Development Co-ordinator and the Training Team as part of the Diocesan Committed to Growth initiative.

What sorts of things will be covered?

We will start with ourselves, considering our strengths, styles, characteristics and passions. We will look at a Biblical model for the way in which God calls and equips people for varieties of service in the home, the workplace, the community and the church. We will consider how and where God may want us to make a difference.

What people have said about the course:
"This course gave me fresh insights into myself and certainly set me thingking!"
"Thank you for My Place which I found very worthwhile, of great encouragement and a door-opener to discovery…"
"The course was excellent and the leaders’ care for each of us was tangible."
“My Place has helped me understand that everyone is different and that those differences needn't be a hindrance. It's reinforced the idea that there are different ways to worship and pray, and that faith is a journey, with no time requirement!”
“It has helped me understand that there is life beyond having fulfilled a calling and that another calling is just around the corner.”
