Course Pathways

All course pathways are validated by Anglia Ruskin University

Each year OLM students also attend three (3) Residential weekends jointly with ERMC Students; a Prayer Weekend and Sunday visits to each other's parishes. Reader students attend the joint weekends with ERMC Students for the Saturday, where material relating to their modules will be delivered. They also have a Residential weekend in January.

Throughout the year Ordinands and Readers meet in separate Formation for Ministry groups as part of their preparation for ministry.

Year 1

In the first year students will normally take the following modules:

  • Reading The New Testament
  • Reading the Old Testament
  • Introduction to Life and Service (worship, Anglican identity and preaching skills)
  • Church Context : Theological Reflection
  • Pastoral skills for mission and ministry

Year 2

All students study:

  • The Christian God (an introductory theology module)
  • Introduction to Church History
  • Texts and Practice (a module building on previous biblical work exploring exegesis and hermeneutics)

All students also undertake a Placement in another parish very different from their own.
Ordinands have an additional placement either in a Social Context (ERMC) or in undertaking a Mission Audit in their home benefice (OLM)

Year 3

In this final year students undertake further modules specific to their future ministry.

Ordinands take a module entitled Development of Life and Service which explores the nature of ordained ministry and sacraments.

Readers take two modules:

  • Gospel and Western Culture
  • The Learning Church (developing the skills needed to teach adults)

Finally, all students take two further modules:

  • Christian Belief (building on the Christian God module)
  • Christian Ethics
