Open Churches in Norfolk & Waveney

Norfolk has over 600 historic church buildings,
more per acre and per person than anywhere in the world.

Many of these churches are open to visitors throughout the year.

Open Churches Week takes place between 31 July - 8 August 2010 and starts with a Classic Car Rally from The Cathedralvia a number of magnificent churches. On the Sunday 1 August is the Annual Service at St Benet's Abbey with the Bishop of Norwich.

The Church of England recognises the importance of these wonderful buildings to Norfolk’s tourism and is pursuing a number of initiatives to make them more accessible to tourists, pilgrims and local people.

Not only are these buildings of national importance architectually, many are active places of worship where the local Christian communities meet to pray, worship and learn together. Why not visit for a Sunday service and meet the people?
