We were privileged to welcome Archbishop Paul Kwong to the Diocese of Norwich for a few days prior to Lambeth 08.
Following ‘the handover’ to China in 1997 the Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui was established in 1998. The province of Hong Kong has 60 -70 priests serving a total population of 7 million (more than the population of Norway, for example).
The clergy of each diocese meet every Thursday morning for Eucharist, breakfast, bible study and any other business, except for the monthly meeting of the whole province.
The Government would appear to out-source most of its social work. Consequently, whilst Christians make up only 3% of the total population, the Anglican Episcopal Church is responsible for running a number of schools, older people’s homes, kindergartens, clinics and social drop-in centres, the parish priest quite often being the Responsible Officer and Chairman of the Board.
